History – R.A. Mitchell Co.,
Inc. was founded in 1954 by Robert
A. Mitchell, who specialized in
providing engine service to the
commercial fishing industry. In
1957, R.A. Mitchell Co., was proudly
awarded the Lister Distributorship
for Massachusetts. Robert B.
Mitchell joined the Company in 1962
and continued the tradition of his
father to supply and service not
only the fishing industry but
various other markets. Bob’s ability
to provide fast service and parts
for the equipment he sold, enabled
him to continue his father’s strong
rapport with their existing
customers as well as develop a
rapidly expanding client base.
Today - The R.A. Mitchell
Co., in a larger facility, occupies
a 21,000-sq. ft. building on Route
6, between Fairhaven and New
Bedford, Massachusetts. The fishing
industry is still an important part
of the Company’s business, but we
also serve the municipal, emergency,
residential, construction,
agricultural, industrial, pollution
control and pleasure boat markets.
We customize generator systems and
power units as well as provide local
and regional distributorships for
many other manufacturers. Upon
graduation from college, Bob’s
daughters Jennifer and Karen joined
the Company and quickly became
indispensable in a long-standing
family tradition.
Diversity - Many of our
customers are in New England, but we
also sell throughout the USA.
Through expanding our horizons we
have also exported products to the
Philippines, Russia, Siberia,
Taiwan, China, Japan, Kuwait, the
Dominican Republic, Columbia, Peru,
Ecuador, Honduras, Mexico, Tanzania,
El Salvador, Angola, Nigeria, Egypt,
Belgium, Seychelle Islands,
Australia, Portugal, France, Spain,
Canada, the Caribbean and England.
Performance - R.A. Mitchell
Co. has earned performance awards
from Lister-Petter since 1983,
including five Gold Awards for Top
Performing Distributor. The Company
carries the largest inventory of
Lister-Petter parts in the U.S.
apart from the factory. Professional
service is provided for all products
and is available 24 hours a day
throughout the New England region.
Our experienced, factory-trained
service technicians are dedicated to
the Company’s mission of fast,
efficient service.
In addition - R.A. Mitchell
Co. packages, tests, installs and
services many unique power units,
including generator sets (standby
and prime power), diesel pump and
compressor sets and hydraulic power
